Q: My child had a fever last night (over 100.0*F), may I send him/her to school in the morning?
A: NO. Please keep your child home until they have not had a fever for 24 hours without fever reducing medication (Tylenol or Motrin).
Q: My child threw up several times last night, but ate breakfast this morning. May I send her/him to school?
A: NO. Please keep your child at home for 24 hours if they have been vomiting.
Q: I found lice and/or nits in my child’s hair last night. I treated them with lice killing shampoo. May I send him/her to school?
A: YES. Once your child has been treated and you have picked the nits that you are able to see, they may be in school.
Q: My child has been coughing and has cold symptoms (runny nose, congestion). May I send her/him to school?
A: YES. Cold symptoms and coughing can last for days and even weeks. Remind your child to cover their cough and sneezes with their elbows and frequent hand washing is a must!
Q: When will the health room call me about my child?
A: This question is always tricky because it is different for every situation. Mrs. Hanson-Boone and Mrs. Breck use their skills as health assistant and Registered Nurse to decide if the parent needs to be notified. Generally speaking, we call home for significant head bumps, marks to the face (scrapes, bruises, etc), and repeated visits to the health room.
