Schedule Adjustment for Early Dismissal on October 16th at 12:45

The HCPSS 2020-2021 calendar includes four scheduled 3-hour early dismissal days:
  • Friday, October 16, 2020 
  • Friday, November 6, 2020 
  • Monday, November 23, 2020 
  • Tuesday, November 24, 2020 
The virtual schedules have been adjusted for these scheduled early dismissal days to provide students with synchronous learning for each class. Additionally, both full- and half-day PreK classes will meet on these days using a modified schedule.
 
Early dismissal day revised schedules for all elementary, middle, and high school grades are provided on the 2020-2021 School Year website.
 
Weis 4 School

Deep Run Elementary is partnering with Weis Markets to raise funds for our school.  The funds raised will go towards various activities for our students and a new school sign.  When you shop at Weis, scan the code from the flyer below to register your  Weis Club Card.  Once you register you are in the program and do not need to register again. Please share this bar code with friends and relatives so they can support our school too!

Pantry on the Go at Glen Mar Church

PANTRY ON THE GO - Glen Mar Church will be hosting a Pantry on the Go Friday, Oct. 23, from 4 - 6 p.m.  They'll be giving away not only boxes of fresh produce, but free face masks and children's books.  See the attached flyers (in English and Spanish) for details.

Howard County Library's Rube Goldberg Challenge

Although HCPSS is not participating in the Rube Goldberg challenge this year.  The Howard County Library has decided to offer an online version for the community themselves.

Mental Health Matters at Mayfield Woods MS Virtual 5K or 10K

MWMS, MWMS PTA, TIME Organization, and the Horizon Foundation have teamed together to bring awareness to Mental Health within our community. By participating in our FREE virtual 10K (6.2 miles) or 5K(3.1 miles), you will commit to raising awareness to this global health crisis. All participants will receive a finisher's certificate and the first 125 participants will also receive a finisher's T-Shirt!  Complete the 10K or 5K in your neighborhood between now and November 30th.  Learn more in the flyer below:

Each car will be eligible to receive one box of food, and all participants must wear a face mask during pickup.  There are no income or documentation restrictions.  We have requested over 2,000 boxes of food, but once the food is gone it is gone.  You are welcome to come each week that the program is available to receive food whether walking or by car.

Free Meals for All Children Extended through the 20-21 School Year at Deep Run

Effective October 12, 2020, all daily meals will include breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack, and can be picked up at either meal time. Additionally, meals may be pre-ordered for pickup on Mondays or Thursdays only.

Meals will be provided at no cost to any HCPSS student, and all children 18 and under, throughout the 2020-2021 school year, subject to U.S. Department of Agriculture funding availability.

The food services program during the 2020-2021 first semester (Sept. 8, 2020-Jan. 28, 2021) consist of Grab-and-Go meals served any day school is in session, Monday through Friday from 8–9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m. Meals include breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack, and may be picked up at either meal time. Beginning October 12, 2020, meals picked up on Fridays or pre-ordered for Thursday pickup also will include weekend meals.

Las comidas se proporcionarán sin costo a todos los estudiantes hasta el 31 de diciembre del 2020, sujeto a la disponibilidad de fondos del Departamento de Agricultura de los EE. UU.El programa de servicios de alimentos durante el primer semestre del 2020-2021 (del 8 de septiembre del 2020 al 28 de enero del 2021) consistirá en comidas para llevar (Grab-and-Go) que se servirán de lunes a viernes de 8 a 9 a.m. y de 10:45 a.m. a 12: 45 p.m., comenzando el martes 8 de septiembre.     Halloween 2020

    Although we recognize that Halloween activities held during the school day have been a long-standing tradition at our school, the decision has been made to not hold Halloween activities during the virtual instructional day this school year in any HCPSS school. This allows all students, whether they recognize Halloween or not, to fully participate and engage in instruction on October 30th.

    Partnering with Parents to Help Keep Families Strong!  Maryland Family Network is providing Virtual Parent Cafés for parents of children birth through age five.

    Virtual Parent Cafés are a free, safe space for parents to have meaningful conversations with other parents. The structured conversations give parents an opportunity to talk together about things that matter to them. They’re a great way to help us stay connected and keep our families strong during these difficult times.
