Grade Level Meetings with the Administrators

At the beginning of each school year, Mrs. Lancaster, Mrs. Quirk, and Mrs. Townsend meet with each grade level team to review school system policies and procedures with students.  The following topics are shared in a developmentally appropriate manner with grades K-5. You can learn more about HCPSS policies on the HCPSS Website.  The Student and Parent Handbook also includes information shared with the students.

We explained to students that toys should be left at home, including fidgets and poppers.  We also explained that in elementary schools, cell phones need to be off and in backpacks during the school day.

On the Road to Kindergarten in Deep Run Park

The Howard County Library will be going to the Deep Run Park neighborhood, by the pool, every other Wednesday starting October 6th. Click here for more information.

Gifted and Talented Seminars and Enrichment Groups

Is your child interested in art, architect, building, or research? Please see the GT class offerings and be sure to fill out an interest form by 10/6.

GT Program Parent Academy October 13 and 14

HCPSS families interested in the Gifted and Talented (GT) Program are invited to come learn about the advanced-level offerings available and how their students can become involved. The evening will begin with an overview of GT Education Program offerings followed by a question and answer session with Central Office GT Education Program staff. Elementary and Secondary programs will be covered on separate days. Families may attend one or both nights. Registration is required for these events.

  • Elementary Focus: Wednesday, October 13, 7 – 8:00 p.m., being held virtually via Microsoft Teams
  • Secondary Focus: Thursday, October 14, 7-8:00 p.m., being held virtually via Microsoft Teams

HEPA Filters

Air purifiers have been installed in all classrooms throughout our building. This is another preventative measure our school system and DRES has taken to keep our students and staff as safe as we can.

PTA Fall Fundraiser--Please Read

Our Fall Fundraiser kicks off October 1st!  Please help support DRES with our PTA Fall Fundraiser. This year we're partnering with Charleston Wrap to raise funds to support our family activities like the winter festival, STEM, and teacher supports. Charleston Wrap offers a wide variety of gadgets, gifts, treats, candles, and home goods. Fundraising packets were sent home this week. Please check it out and share with family and friends! Items can be ordered online and shipped directly to you, OR submitted with payment offline and picked up at school later.  Items not ordered online will be shipped to DRES and available for pickup the week of November 22nd. More details to come closer to the pick-up date. Thank you for supporting our students and staff!

PTA Halloween Trunk or Treat

Save the date for the PTA's Annual Trunk or Treat on October 28th at 6:00.

Halloween will only be celebrated at the Trunk or Treat. There will be no Halloween events taking place during the school day.

Elkridge Food Pantry

The Elkridge Food Pantry is open to families in need on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.

Covid-19 Self Screenings

All parents/guardians are to perform a COVID-19 health check every day before your student leaves home. Students are not to come to school if they are experiencing any symptom(s) associated with COVID-19 or other communicable disease.

Student/Parent Handbook

The 2021-2022 Student and Parent Handbook is now available on the HCPSS website. This resource is helpful for navigating the school year and includes information about HCPSS practices, policies and services available to support and enrich learning. A printed version of the handbook is no longer provided.
