Gifted and Talented Seminar and Enrichment Groups
Is your child interested in art, architect, building, or research?  If so, please see the GT class offerings below and be sure to fill out an interest form by 10/6.

 

Grades 2 and 3: Pipe Cleaners Gone Crazy!  (Instructional Seminar)
In Pipe Cleaners Gone Crazy, you will be creating art using pipe cleaners! You will use your creativity to build 3D sculptures of your favorite furry creatures, letter art, and more. We will be reading non-fiction text to perform a task, integrating math skills, such as measurement, and some writing skills. Grades 4 and 5: Gnome House Design (Instructional Seminar)
As Gnome House Architects, you will draw inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater while you think creatively and use decision-making skills to plan and design houses for your clients. During this seminar, you will receive gnome house design assignments, which will challenge you to work through the steps of the architectural design process. As gnome house architects, you will use your Gnome client’s program requirements to sketch and create architectural drawings including bubble diagrams, floor plans, and elevations.  Students must complete this form: Gnome House Design Interest Form

 

Grades 4 and 5: Unheard Perspectives (Instructional Seminar)
The Unheard Perspectives Showcase is for students in who  volunteer to learn more about American innovators whose voices are often unheard.  The question guiding each entry is: “Which innovator has had a significant impact on your life?”  To answer this question, students gather to develop research skills and learn more about innovators throughout American history. Students showcase their knowledge through a presentation of a PowerPoint, display, or performance.   At the showcase, judges evaluate students’ exhibits and score students based on a set of criteria using a rubric. Students must complete this form: Unheard Perspectives Interest Form

 

Grades 4 and 5:  Rube Goldberg Challenge (Instructional Seminar)

A Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately over-engineered or overdone machine that performs a very simple task in a very complex fashion, including a chain reaction. The expression is named after American cartoonist and inventor Rube Goldberg.The “Rube Goldberg Challenge” is a year long enrichment that requires students to work together in a group to design and build a complex machine. The machine must complete a specific task. Anyone who is interested must fill out an application. *Due to the nature of this project, students will be selected based on the application process.   Students must complete this application form: Rube Goldberg Challenge Application
