Rockin Ranger Shop--School Store Hours

The school store will be open next week (2/7-2/11) for shopping! Please be sure to bring your money safely to school on your grade's scheduled shopping day:

Young Authors Contest Winners

Thank you to all the students who participated in the Young Author’s Contest this year!  We had over 40 students in grades first through fifth write a poem or short story.  Some students submitted both!  All the submissions were creative and interesting to read!  Here are the winners in each grade:

Reminder:  The Greene Turtle Restaurant Night February 10th

Come hang out with Deep Run at Green Turtle for restaurant DAY on Thursday February 10th! If you stop in don't forget to say "HI" to Tommy the Green Turtle who will be around for high 5's. Who knew that the logo turtle was real? Not ready to eat out? Don't worry you can hang in and order to-go!No one wants to cook on conference night anyway. Bring our flyer into Green Turtle ALL DAY to help support 5th grade! OOPs, forgot your flyer? That is ok, just show the staff a picture of the flyer and the school will earn 20% for the night! PTA World Culture Night February 24th 6:15-8:00

World Culture Night is a great opportunity to showcase the diverse heritage of our school community.

We invite you to show pride in any country, culture or heritage. All are welcome, including families who sign up to showcase Maryland or American culture.

Options to participate:
1. Culture Tables- Create a trifold board with your child(ren) to display pictures and/or share artifacts and have a table in the hallway,

AND/OR

2. Have you and/or your child(ren) go on stage as part of our Parade of Cultures (see below to learn what this entails!). Trifold boards will be provided if you do not have one.

World Culture Night will be Thursday, February 24th from 6:15 pm - 8:00 pm.

SCHEDULE:
5:45 pm - Parents who sign up can begin setting up tables in the hallway
6:15 to 7:00 pm - Families circulate throughout hallway areas to explore the culture tables
7:10 to 8:00 pm - Parade of Cultures on stage - parents/children sign up in advance to showcase clothing
(fashion show, song, dance, story, poem or other). PERFORMANCE WILL BE LIMITED TO TWO (2) MINUTES

If you would like to participate by creating a trifold board to share your culture or by performing in the Parade of Cultures, please complete the form below no later than Friday, February 11th.

Parent Teacher Conferences on February 10th and 11th

Thursday, February 10th and Friday, February 11th are designated for Virtual Parent Teacher Conferences following early dismissal for students.  We will be holding 20-minute conferences, with a focus on math.  All conferences will be held virtually with your child’s math teacher.  A google link code for your conference will be sent to you with your confirmation email.   

Today is the last day you can log on to HCPSS Connect at www.hcpss.org/connect to access Synergy Conference Management and schedule a conference.  You can then choose your desired 20-minute conference time from the math teacher’s availability. Click here for directions to schedule your conference. Parents needing assistance should contact our front office staff at 410-313-5000.

Tips for Scheduling Conferences:

  • Parent Teacher Conferences will be scheduled in 20-minute increments. All conferences will need to begin and end on time.
  • You will use your (parent) HCPSS Connect/Family File account to schedule Parent Teacher Conferences.
  • If you are not available to attend a virtual conference during the parent/teacher conference window, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Howard County Library Pop-Up Library in Deep Run Mobile Home Park

The Howard County Library's Pop-Up Library is coming to Deep Run Park.  This is for children, ages infant to age 5, and their caregiver.  The Pop-Up Library will  be in Deep Run Park on February 9th and 23rd from 2-4 pm.

Kindergarten Registration Begins March 7th

Children must be 5 years old by September 1 in order to enroll in kindergarten. Every child who is 5 years old by September 1 must be enrolled in a kindergarten program this fall or have an approved waiver.

Staff Appreciation Throughout the Year

Volunteer/Observer Vaccine Requirement

All volunteers and chaperones who interact with students, and parents/guardians who are conducting classroom observations will be required to use the PinPoint platform to show proof of full vaccination at least five school days in advance.

Covid-19 Self Screenings

All parents/guardians are to perform a COVID-19 health check every day before your student leaves home. Students are not to come to school if they are experiencing any symptom(s) associated with COVID-19 or other communicable disease.
