NEWS

Great Opening to the 22-23 School Year

We had a fabulous Open House and First Day of School!  Thank you to Wonderland Organization who provided the fancy Welcome Back balloon arch!  Wonderland Organization is a local business owned by a Deep Run parent.  You can reach Wonderland Organization at 443-745-8761 or wonderlandorgparty@gmail.com.

Also thank you to other business partners who provided school supplies, backpacks,  and even free snow cones:  Howard County Local Children's Board, The Kindness Pantry, CareFirst, Prepare for Success, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Trinity Episcopal Church, Catholic Community of Ascension and St. Augustin, and several Deep Run families.  Thank you!!

Rangers Support Group

Carolyn Wohnsigl, School Counselor and Soraya Anderson, School Psychologist, will be offering a six-session support group for Deep Run Students who have lost a loved one. We are basing the content on the book, The Invisible String, by Patrice Karst.  In the group, we hope to provide a space for students to explore and express their emotions related to attachment and loss in creative ways and build resiliency and self-confidence. Students will enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills through play, art, music, discussions and celebrations. The group is open to children in grades K-5 and will meet weekly for six weeks. The time of the group will rotate through the schedule so that students do not miss the same content area more than once. Parents and care givers will be invited to attend the last session. Please email carolyn_wohnsigl@hcpss.org by September 9 for more information.

Dismissal at Deep Run Elementary

Thank you for your patience during dismissal.  We are trying to get over a hundred cars through our car loop and it will take time.  This is our first week of school and there have been a few days when we were able to get all the cars through within 15 minutes of our 3:55 dismissal. This is our goal but there will be days when it may stretch to 20 minutes.

We are asking that our families who live in our walker zone, walk to school.

Chromebooks

If you have a child in kindergarten through 5th grade who still has a Chromebook laptop at home, please return the Chromebook to school with the charging cord.  We will unassign your child from the Chromebook.
This year, students in elementary school will not have their own assigned Chromebook, they will use computers that are avaiable to each grade.  Thank you.

Learning Together Program Needs 3 Year Olds

The Deep Run Elementary School Learning Together Program is accepting applications for 3-year-old students (must be 3 by September 1, 2022) to attend our RECC. The available spaces are in our PM session. To learn more about the LTP program, please review the Process Guidelines and ParentHandbook

A limited number of openings are available for children without disabilities. Children are selected based upon screening information given on the application form and space availability. If necessary, a lottery process is conducted. The fees listed in the application will be collected monthly regardless of the learning model determined by HCPSS throughout the current school year (virtual, hybrid, or normal operations). If you have any questions, please contact Deep Run Elementary at 410-313-500 and ask for Ms. Blackwell or contact the Office of Early Intervention Services at 410-313-7017.
