Dear Deep Run Families

It has been a busy couple of weeks at Deep Run. We are almost at the end of the 1st quarter. As we walk around the building it is wonderful to see students learning. Our PTA Trunk or Treat event was amazing with so many smiling faces at our school. Thank you to our wonderful PTA for organizing this event. It takes a strong family-school partnership to serve our communuity. We look forward to seeing you in our school.

Halloween Reminders

As a reminder, we do not have a Halloween parade at Deep Run during the school day. We had a wonderful Trunk or Treat event this week to celebrate together. Accordingly, students are not permitted to wear costumes to school on October 31st. We will be having a fun morning of activities reinforcing belonging, and remember, it is a half day so students have the afternoon to enjoy halloween at home.

Standards Based Instruction and Reporting

As was shared at Back to School Night presentation, grades PreK - 2 will be switching to this new reporting.  We hosted an evening for families to learn more about this reporting and report card changes.  Here are some additional resources to help families beter understand their child's report card:

Please complete your family file!

HCPSS utilizes Family File for parents/guardians to complete emergency information. All parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child each school year.  Parents/guardians can access their student's Family File by logging into HCPSS Connect, selecting the “More Options” tab on the left and then selecting “Family File” in the center column. Thank you!

Title I News and Updates

Deep Run Elementary School is a Title I Schoolwide Program school. Title I is a federally funded program designed to close achievement gaps and ensure all children have an opportunity to access a high-quality education by providing funding for supplemental academic services and supports.  The goal of this program is to close the achievement gap for all students. Our program allows all students to be eligible for additional academic support and the funds are used to support and enhance the overall school program.  During the school year, we would welcome any feedback related to our Title I School-wide programming.

The Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) contains several provisions which promote a parent/school partnership through communication. One such provision gives parents of students attending Title I schools the right to ask for and receive information about the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teacher, paraprofessional, and/or long-term substitute teacher.  Please see the attached information regarding Parental Right to Know Information.
