Police Patrols at HPCSS Schools--Building Positive Relationships

Mon, 03/26/2018 - 9:59am

In response to recent events and in conjunction with the Howard County School System, the Howard County Police Department has implemented an initiative where police officers will incorporate at least one school "walk through" per shift into their work routine. This will occur a few days during the school week.  This opportunity is a positive one and has not been initiated because of any specific incident at Deep Run Elementary or any other school.  This initiative will give staff, students and the police officers a chance to foster relationships with each other so that we can continue to promote a positive school environment where all members of the school community feel safe.  For Deep Run, this will be a continuation of the already positive relationship we have with the Howard County Police Department.  Officers are often in our building reading to classes, having lunch with students, or participating in special events like Hero of the Day, Read Across Deep Run Day, Career Day, Otto the Auto, and Kindness Week.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
