Young Authors' Contest
The Young Authors' Contest, spnsored by the State of Maryland Literacy Association, is open to students in grades 1-5. Students may submit their original poems or short stories written within the past year. The due date is December 2nd. Entries will not be accepted after December 2nd. Entries should be submitted to Mrs. Owens at audrey_owens@hcpss.org and should include the cover sheet with parent's signature. Please follow the directions in the following documents:
Stakeholder Input on Spring Semester Instructional Model
Parents/guardians, students, staff and other stakeholders may provide input and feedback to the Board of Education regarding the spring semester instructional model by emailing spring-input@hcpss.org. The Board will review all emails; however, due to the anticipated volume, individual responses should not be expected.
HCPSS Invites Stakeholder Input on the School Resource Officer Program
The Howard County Public School System invites students, parents and guardians, staff members and community stakeholders to share their input about the School Resource Officer (SRO) Program in HCPSS schools. Feedback about the program may be provided by emailing SROinput@hcpss.org. All messages will be reviewed; however, due to the anticipated volume, individual responses should not be expected. The feedback provided will inform HCPSS' ongoing review of the roles, purpose and outcomes of SROs in Howard County schools. An update was presented at the October 22, 2020 Board meeting.

We are proud of the way that our students have persevered and the levels of engagement they have demonstrated.To maintain a positive, productive learning environment and assure confidentiality for students and teachers during virtual learning, students and parents/guardians are asked to continue following the guidelines and expectations detailed on the HCPSS website.

The theme for the poster contest are Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s words, "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends." The deadline for the poster is October 30 at 5:00 p.m. Each applicant must submit an application and their submission by the deadline, to be eligible for the cash prizes. Deep Run Elementary is partnering with Weis Markets to raise funds for our school. The funds raised will go towards various activities for our students and a new school sign. When you shop at Weis, scan the code from the flyer below to register your Weis Club Card. Once you register you are in the program and do not need to register again. Please share this bar code with friends and relatives so they can support our school too!

Each car will be eligible to receive one box of food, and all participants must wear a face mask during pickup. There are no income or documentation restrictions. We have requested over 2,000 boxes of food, but once the food is gone it is gone. You are welcome to come each week that the program is available to receive food whether walking or by car.
