August 5, 2021
Greetings Deep Run Families,
We would like to welcome back our returning families and extend a warm welcome to our families who are new to Deep Run Elementary. We hope your family had a wonderful summer. We also hope you can enjoy the remaining three weeks of summer vacation with some fun families activities.
Our Deep Run staff had a great summer but we are getting very excited to start the 20201-2022 school year. We hope your children are getting excited to connect with their teacher, friends, and school staff. We are looking forward to seeing all of our students in the building for in-person learning.
The Deep Run Digest will arrive in your email each Friday morning. This particular edition has information that we believe will be helpful to you as you prepare for the start of the school year. Addtional information with more specific details about the school year will be shared as we get closer to the first day of school. In the meantime, our Deep Run website also contains information about the school year.
We have a very active PTA! Follow them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/DRES.PTA/.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Denise Lancaster, Principal (denise_lancaster@hcpss.org)
Sophia Quirk, Assistant Principal (sophia_quirk@hcpss.org)

Family File is Open Now for Returning Families
HCPSS Family File is where parents input and find all of the information located on their child's Emergency Procedure Cards, contact information and medical considerations. For the safety of your child/children, it is very important that this information remains current. This information must be updated every year. Please ensure that it is completed prior to the start of school. Once logged in, parents/guardians will be asked to verify or update the following information: Student Information, Parent/Guardian Contact, Emergency Contact, Medical Information, Arrival/Dismissal Procedures, Photo Approval, Data Confidentiality, and PTA/PTSA Directory.
Please read these Family File directions to begin. To update your Family File, go to https://www.hcpss.org/connect/.
Parents who may have forgotten their log-in credentials can request assistance using the help link in the HCPSS Connect page. If you need help, click here. Please revise and/or complete your family contact information as soon as possible. We appreciate your efforts to complete this important task right away.
*New HCPSS families will receive login credentials beginning the first two weeks of August*
Was Your Child a Virtual Only Student in Kindergarten Last Year
We are pleased to offer an opportunity for first grade students returning to Deep Run, who have never been inside the school. Students who were fully virtual during their kindergarten year are invited to come to Deep Run on August 25th at 4:30 for a brief tour of the building.
This is only for first graders returning to Deep Run. We have special orientations planned for kindergarten students and new students in grades 1-5 on August 27th.
Food and Nutrition Services
HCPSS will continue its free food service program to meet the growing need to feed hungry children and families in Howard County and fill the nutritional gap. All meals will be provided at no cost to HCPSS students during the 2021-2022 school year.
School Supplies
The school supply list is available on the DRES website.
We will also have a large number of backpacks filled with school supplies to give to students at the open house on August 27th.
Additionally, Paragon at Columbia Overlook apartments will be offering a "school supply buffet." Students may bring their backpacks to the Paragon clubhouse on August 26th from 5-7 to collect the supplies they need for school.
Chromebook Technology Requests
Any student who borrowed a Chromebook last year will continue to use that device during the 2021-2022 school year. Every student new to HCPSS will receive a chromebook; parents/guardians do not need to do anything to request this device. Details for new device distribution will be communicated as soon as they are available.
Technology Accounts for New Deep Run Students
Beginning the week of August 2, families with students new to HCPSS and whose registration has been finalized will receive an email from noreply@hcpss.org with the subject “Technology account information for new HCPSS student.” The email will be sent to the email address used during the student registration process. The email contains personalized and important information regarding new students’ technology accounts. If you have a child new to HCPSS and do not receive the email and/or cannot locate the email in the junk/spam folder of the email account you used during registration, you can use the Forgot Password or Username button on the hcpss.me student landing page to retrieve both your child’s username and password. Directions for Account Self Service directions are posted online.
