DRES Walk and Bike to School--October 10

We invite you to walk or bike to Deep Run with your child on October 10th.

PTA Fall Fundraiser

The DRES PTA Fundriaser wraps up today. Orders with payment are due today.

3rd Grade Recorders


As part of the general music curriculum, all Howard County students in third grade play the recorder, a small woodwind instrument, in their music class. Recorders can be purchased through the school for $4. Payment can be by cash, or check payable to DRES. Payment can also be made through Online School Payments at (4% processing fee).

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Testing

We began administering Fall MAP assessments in reading and mathematics to all DRES students in grades 1-5 this past week.

GT Information Night


On October 8th at 6:00, we will have our GT Information Night for Parents. In order to consolidate information for our families and community, we have changed our GT Back to School Night and rescheduled it to be included in the October 8th event. Please note that September 25th will be the 3-5 Back to School Night where families will receive information from the child’s homeroom teacher only, beginning at 6:30pm. GT Math Class Expectations will be shared with the parents of students in GT math through Canvas and a flyer.  An overview of the entire GT program for K-5 at Deep Run will be shared on October 8th, including information about the 4th and 5th grade GT math courses, curriculum, and sequence.

Parking at Arrival and Dismissal

Please do not use the Sherwood apartments parking areas at arrival and dismissal. This is private property and they will contact the police and/or have cars towed.

School Attendance

Regular, daily attendance is very important for learning and the overall success of your child at school.

Back to School Policy Review with Students

Each year, the principal and assistant principals meet with each grade for a class meeting during the first few weeks of school to review some of the very important policies of the Howard County Public School System.

School Meals

HCPSS participates in the Free and Reduced Meals (FARMs) program.  Students (PreK-12) who meet the federal income guidelines are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals. Applications are available on-line or in paper forms. A new application needs to be submitted each year.  Please complete the application (Spanish and English) as soon as possible to avoid delays in your student receiving a meal.  Go to
