Introduction

Do you like coding? (Say yes, look outside!) Do you like art? (I am outside your window, you better say yes). Well, you’re in luck! Cause Byte-A-Dynamo (by Tech Break) is here! We support students who have none or very few chances to explore the many fields of the one and only, TECHNOLOGY! The wonderful participants will get to try Python (the code not the snake… get it?), cracking codes (you’ll get to talk “alien speak”!), and team-work projects! Join us at the Howard County Library System on July 12, 19, and/or 26! Register now by scanning the QR code above! Professors will volunteer to lead or help our three delightful workshops! The super student mentor team consists of graduate, collage, and a few high school students (Thomas Jefferson High School and River Hill High School) will guide the participants with hands-on exercises. Speakers are the IEEE President and past President of IEEE CS Society and the Officers of the IEEE Baltimore Section (a LOT of IEEE people here…).

Let's Code:

On July 12th, the participants will be grouped into small groups to brainstorm to figure out a problem they want to solve using coding. The mentors will facilitate brainstorming to make sure the problems are feasible. Each group will be led by the mentors to help students do the Python coding.

On July 19th, the students will learn how to crack codes and make codes. Students will have experience learning a ciphering game in Python codes. STEAM: On July 26th, students will learn the beauty of the integration of ART with STEM! The students and their mentors will do brainstorming first to decide what art genre they prefer creating. The students will learn how to use Arduino, a basic setup of circuits, and LED series step by step to decorate an art piece which will be created during the workshop. Groups will present their work at the end of each workshop. Thanks to IEEE CS Juniors Program for funding this series of workshops, and IEEE Baltimore Section and Howard County Library System inkind support this project.
