Dear Deep Run Families
On Tuesday, May 6th, ZUM will roll out their new RFID bus card system for all of our students assigned to ZUM buses here at Deep Run. These cards will be used EACH TIME your child rides the bus to or from school. Even if your child does not ride a bus, but is eligible for HCPSS bus transportation, they will receive a ZUM RFID card. Please keep this card at home until they become a bus rider.
Students will begin swiping the cards to get on the bus beginning May 6th. Please know that no eligible student will be denied bus service if they lose or forget their card. Student bus cards are uniquely assigned to students and cannot be shared. Students’ first names and last initials are printed on the cards to help with identification.
For now, we have asked staff to tie the bus cards and the provided lanyard to each student’s backpack. Please leave the cards on your child’s backpack.
When boarding or disembarking the bus, students will tap their card on the card reader installed at the front of the bus near the driver. When tapped, the card wirelessly transmits a unique code to the tablet on the bus, which knows which student is assigned to that code.
Parents/guardians will have access to their student’s ridership information via the Zum app, which you may already use for bus pickup/drop off information. The Zum app is available for free download on the Apple Store and Google Play. More information on using the app is available online.

El martes 6 de mayo, ZUM lanzará su nuevo sistema de tarjeta de autobús RFID para todos nuestros estudiantes asignados a los autobuses ZUM aquí en Deep Run. Estas tarjetas se usarán CADA VEZ que su hijo viaje en autobús hacia o desde la escuela. Incluso si su hijo no viaja en autobús, pero es elegible para el transporte en autobús del HCPSS, recibirá una tarjeta ZUM RFID. Por favor mantenga esta tarjeta en casa hasta que se conviertan en pasajeros del autobús.
Los estudiantes comenzarán a pasar las tarjetas para subir al autobús a partir del 6 de mayo. Al subir o bajar del autobús, los estudiantes tocarán su tarjeta en el lector de tarjetas instalado en la parte delantera del autobús, cerca del conductor. Cuando se toca, la tarjeta transmite de forma inalámbrica un código único a la tableta en el autobús, que sabe qué estudiante está asignado a ese código.
Los padres/tutores tendrán acceso a la información sobre el número de pasajeros de sus estudiantes a través de la aplicación Zum, que ya pueden usar para obtener información sobre la recogida y devolución del autobús. La aplicación Zum está disponible para descarga gratuita en Apple Store y Google Play. Más información sobre el uso de la aplicación está disponible en línea.
