PARCC Scores for 4th and 5th Graders

PARCC scores from the 18-19 school year will go home in Wednesday folders.

Cell Phones

Students in elementary school do not need cell phones.  If students need to contact their parent during the school day, they may use the phone in the front office.  If a student brings a cell phone to school it must remain off in their back packs while on school property.  For the safety of your child, we encourage you to wait until your child is in high school to get a cell phone.

Changes to the Elementary Report Card--Learning Behaviors

Beginning this school year, you will see changes to the Learning Behaviors section of the HCPSS report card. These changes are in alignment with the updated Elementary Grading and Reporting Policy.  Please use this link to learn more about Policy 8010:   https://www.hcpss.org/policies/8000/8010-grading-reporting-pre-kindergarten-grade-five/.

Learning Behaviors are learned actions that enable students to access learning and interact with others productively in the community. These behaviors are developed in and outside of school. Additionally, Learning Behaviors help with understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining positive relationships, and making responsible decisions that are essential life skills. The learning behaviors also complement the curriculum content taught in the elementary grades and are a natural part of learning about oneself while interacting with others.  These new learning behaviors were collaboratively developed with teachers, administrators, curriculum staff, and parent advisory committees.

Wednesday Folders

Important information and flyers about community events will go home in Wednesday Folders.  This will give families time to review the information and return completed information to school before the weekend.  Please be sure to check Wednesday folders on  a regular basis and return them to school.

Parent Volunteers

We welcome volunteers at Deep Run Elementary.  Before you volunteer, according to HCPSS Board Policy, all parent volunteers must complete a Confidentiality Training Course about protecting the privacy of our students, staff, and school.  The online course will take about 5 minutes.  After completing the course, please bring your completion certificate to the front office at school.  Click here to access the course

Deep Run Elementary School Based Wellness Center

DRES has a school based wellness center! Children can receive medical care while they are in school by using telemedicine technology. A secure, two way, real time video link is used to connect the school nurse and your child to either his or her medical provider or a Howard County General Pediatric Emergency Room physician. Parents must complete the enrollment forms for their children to receive services and the school nurse will call you before visits. If you have a smart phone or computer, you may participate in the visit and talk with the doctor.Telemedicine visits are free or cost the same as a regular office visit, depending on the child’s health provider. Click here to see a video of how the program works.
